Overview: Following the Geneva Agreement in 1954, the Ben Hai River, at the 17th parallel, became the military demarcation line that separated Vietnam into two states. The lives of people on both sides of the river were severely affected, with many being separated from their families. The young Chi Diu, who lives south of the river, is separated from her husband, who worked in the north.
